73 percent of respondents believe that the provision for a maximum of two presidential terms must be maintained.
Director of Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) Deni Irvani stated that the results of the SMRC survey on Jokowi's three-term discourse were only supported by 5 percent of Indonesians.
Deni conveyed the results of SMRC's latest research entitled "Public Attitudes towards Election Postponement", on Friday, April 1, 2022.
Deni said that the majority of residents (73 percent) believed that the provision for a maximum of two presidential terms should be maintained.
Of the 15 percent who support the regulation regarding the presidential term having to be changed, as many as 61 percent (or about 9 percent of the total population) of them even want a presidential term only once (for 5, 8, or 10 years).
Meanwhile, those who want more than twice (5 years each) are only 35 percent or only about 5 percent of the total population.
"The idea of increasing the term of office of the president is not a common aspiration in the community. Only about 5 percent of the people agree with that view. The public generally wants a president to only serve a maximum of two terms," said Deni.
Deni added that the opinion of the majority of residents who want to maintain the provision for a maximum of two presidential terms is consistent.
This can be seen in 3 surveys conducted by SMRC, namely in May 2021, September 2021, and March 2022.
In this latest survey, according to Deni, SMRC conducted face-to-face interviews with 1,220 respondents from 13 to 20 March 2022.
Respondents were selected using a stratified multistage random sampling method against people who already had the right to vote, namely those aged 17 years and over or already married. (between, tempo)
