Jokowi: Land Dispute Case Can Increase Social Conflict, Investors Don't Believe

Cases of land disputes will reduce investor confidence to invest in the country.

President Joko Widodo appealed to all his staff to continue to work on resolving land disputes in the community.

Besides having an impact on decreasing investor confidence to invest in the country, this land dispute issue can also increase social conflict.

"It's dangerous, if it's called a land dispute, a land dispute is very dangerous. People can kill because of that. People can trade swords because of land disputes. The fighting between villages could be due to land disputes. people and companies can fight over land disputes. Be careful, this is a social impact, the economic impact can be everywhere," said Jokowi in his remarks at the Agrarian Reform Task Force (GTRA) Summit, in Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi, Thursday (9/6).

Jokowi revealed that of the 126 million land parcels that must be certified, only about 80.6 million lands already have land certificates. This figure has increased from only around 46 million parcels of land in 2015.

Jokowi is trying to continue to issue land certificates that become community rights fairly quickly. According to him, from only issuing 500,000 land certificates in a year, now his party has been able to issue 9,000,000 land certificates per year.

This achievement must continue to be improved considering that there are still many small communities who are still struggling to get certificates for the land they own. He was also furious, when there were still Ministries/Institutions that did not side with small communities in solving this problem.

"And what's even more annoying is what we give. This is what I repeat. Building Use Rights (HGB) of 10,000 hectares. We give these 2,000 hectares of HGB, we give 30,000 hectares of HGB, but we can't complete the small ones of 200 square meters, whether it's property, whether it's HGB, we can't settle. This is our big problem, why land disputes are everywhere," he said.

Jokowi said that one of the obstacles in resolving this land dispute is the high sectoral ego between the relevant Ministries/Institutions. He gave an example, the Bajo tribe, which has passed down for generations living on the waters or the sea, can finally be given a HGB certificate at this time after a long struggle due to being hampered by inter-ministerial sectoral egos.

"The noise is just a problem like that, from the beginning, including the certificate business, that's the way it is. Local governments in districts/cities, at the province, at the center do not work in an integrated manner. They go their separate ways, their egos, if they continue, the country's problems will not be solved, the nation's problems will not be solved," he said. (antara)
