The two of them discussed a number of world defense and security issues, one of which was the US-Indo-Pacific Strategy aka the US Indo-Pacific Strategy.
Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the United States' support for ASEAN by encouraging the US Indo-Pacific Strategy.
Prabowo also hopes that the United States can expand bilateral cooperation throughout Southeast Asia.
"The discussion focused on efforts to strengthen health security, overcome maritime challenges, improve connectivity, and deepen relations between communities," said Defense Minister Prabowo.
The Indo-Pacific Strategy is an attempt by President Joseph Biden's administration to strengthen the United States' position in the Indo-Pacific region. The focus is on ongoing collaboration with allies, partners and institutions in the region.
The United States will make this region free and open, connected, prosperous, secure, and adaptable. From these five points, one of the strategies implemented is the United States is to deepen their five alliances in the region, namely Australia, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Thailand.
The United States is also strengthening ties with a number of key partners in the region. Starting from Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Pacific Islands.
Furthermore, the meeting with Lloyd Austin was held because Prabowo was present in Singapore to speak at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue 2022. This is one of the most important forums for senior officials to share new perspectives on the evolving security challenges in Asia. .
