This vaccine is targeted to get an Emergency Use Listing (EUL) from the World Health Organization (WHO) in October 2022.
President Director of PT Bio Farma (Persero) Honesti Basyir stated that one of the domestically made vaccines, namely the BUMN Covid-19 Vaccine, is targeted to be used by the public starting in July 2022.
The vaccine, which was developed by PT Biofarma (Persero) with Baylor College of Medicine, is planned to be produced for the first phase of 20 million doses.
Honesti explained that his party had conducted a phase 1 clinical trial of the BUMN Vaccine by injecting it into 175 people. The results show good security.
"Only mild side effects appear in the form of pain around the injection point," Honesti said in a meeting with Commission IX of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (31/5/2022).
Phase 2 clinical trials, said Honesti, have also been carried out by injecting the vaccine into 360 people. The results will be submitted to the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) on June 2. If the results are deemed feasible, his party will conduct a phase 3 clinical trial to 4,050 people on June 7.
"We are targeting that by the end of July 2022 we will have received emergency use authorization (EUA) from BPOM for adults and parents," said Honesti.
After getting the EUA, Honesti continued, his party targets to get an Emergency Use Listing (EUL) from the World Health Organization (WHO) in October 2022.
"By getting the EUL from the WHO, we can export or donate (this BUMN vaccine) to countries in need," he said.
Honesti added that his party has prepared production facilities to make 120 million doses of BUMN Vaccines per year. "Our target for the first production until the end of 2022 is 20 million doses," he said. (antara, photo: illustration)
