The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid, appreciated the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. This was conveyed by Shahid when giving a speech at The 7th Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) 2022 at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Wednesday (25/5/2022).
"We are all very happy to see Bali, gather today's face-to-face event on a large scale. I have been informed that around seven thousand participants have registered for today's meeting. This is a testament to the strong commitment and efforts made by the Government of Indonesia, under the leadership of Yang His Excellency President Joko Widodo to fight Covid-19 and return the country to a recovery path," said Abdulla Shahid.
Abdulla Shahid also expressed his appreciation to the Government of Indonesia for hosting the 2022 GDPRR amid the global recovery from Covid-19.
"I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Indonesian government for hosting the global platform for disaster risk reduction and to commend both Indonesia and UNDDR for this joint effort," he said, quoted from a press release from the Palace.
The Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina Jane Mohammed, also expressed her appreciation for a number of steps and policies taken by the Indonesian government in handling the Covid-19 pandemic in the country so that the 2022 GPDRR conference can be held face-to-face and safely. He also appreciated the achievement of the Covid-19 vaccination in Indonesia.
