President Jokowi's Visit to East Asia Strengthens Economic Cooperation

Trust from the government and the private sector from the three East Asian countries in Indonesia's economic growth is also very strong.

Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Retno Marsudi conveyed that the visit of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to three countries in East Asia was carried out to strengthen economic cooperation.

Retno stated that the trust of both the government and the private sector from the three countries in Indonesia's economic growth was very strong.

“The cooperative approach that Indonesia has built has always been based on open, inclusive and mutually beneficial cooperation. The government and private sector trust from the three countries in political stability, economic growth in Indonesia is very strong," said the Foreign Minister in a statement in Seoul, South Korea, quoted from a press release from the Palace, Friday (29/7/2022).

Retno also said that President Jokowi received appreciation from the leaders of the three countries for their contribution to peace and global problems. Even in the midst of a world situation full of rivalries, Indonesia continues to strengthen cooperation with countries in the world.

"In the midst of a world situation filled with rivalry and containment efforts, Indonesia has actually strengthened the knitting of friendship and concrete cooperation with world countries. These efforts will continue,” he continued.

Visits to China, Japan and South Korea were also carried out to strengthen global support for Indonesia's presidency at this year's G20. In addition, this visit will be useful in preparing for Indonesia's chairmanship in ASEAN next year, considering that the three countries have strategic positions in relations with ASEAN.

"The president in the meetings said that Indonesia wants to continue to strengthen, continue to strengthen ASEAN, keep ASEAN relevant and matters not only for the ASEAN community but also for the world," said Retno.

Apart from meeting the leaders of the three countries, Jokowi also met with CEOs from companies in Japan and South Korea. In a meeting with CEOs of Japanese companies, Jokowi said that Japan is one of the largest investors in Indonesia with a quality investment character. Jokowi reassured CEOs that Indonesia is one of the best places to invest.

“I really appreciate the quality of Japanese investment. However, I also hope that Japanese investors will consider their competitiveness so that they can compete with other investors in Indonesia. In short, good quality, competitive prices, that's what we hope for and I believe Indonesia is still one of the best investment places," said Jokowi.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with the CEOs of South Korean companies, the President encouraged investors not to hesitate to convey problems in the field to the ministers or even to the President directly.
