Ministry of Health: Second Booster Vaccine Wait for First Booster Coverage to Reach 50 Percent

The second booster vaccine is prioritized to be given to 1.9 million Indonesian health workers.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Mohammad Syahril said the Ministry of Health is currently still focused on achieving the first booster Covid-19 vaccination target.

The administration of the fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine or the second booster for the community is waiting for the coverage of the first booster vaccination to reach up to 50 percent of the target target.

"Our priority is currently the first booster vaccine, currently only 26.8 percent, our target is 50 percent. The Minister asked for up to 70 percent," said Syahril, in Jakarta, Monday (1/8/2022).

The government targets the delivery of the Covid-19 vaccine to 208,265,720 million people who are the target of the Covid-19 vaccination. Currently, the provision of a second booster is only intended for health workers, considering that the duration of protection for the first booster tends to decrease.

"Health workers have done the first booster for 12 months, so the effectiveness of the antibodies has decreased," he said.

Syahril explained that the second booster vaccine will be given to 1.9 million health workers. While people with high risk such as elderly and comorbid will follow.

On a separate occasion on Sunday (31/7/2022), health expert Dr. Dr. Erlina Burhan SpP (K) said that giving a second booster dose for health workers is expected to provide optimal protection from the risk of Covid-19.

The member of the PB IDI study of infectious diseases said that the government's policy to provide a second booster dose of vaccination for health workers was very good and needed to be appreciated. (antara)
