The BBC reports that the monkeypox virus was first discovered in central Africa in the 1950s
The BBC reports that the monkeypox virus was first discovered in central Africa in the 1950s. Although it has been found for a long time, this disease has never spread outside Africa and triggered outbreaks outside Africa.
But in May 2022, a number of countries in Europe, North America, and several other places detected this monkeypox disease.
UKHSA Director of Clinical and Emerging Infections Meera Chand said most cases of monkeypox in the UK occurred in gay, bisexual men and other men who have sex with men (MSM).
In addition, the disease can be transmitted through close contact between an infected person and people in a sexual relationship with each other. (Ministry of Health, BBC)
