Indonesia must prioritize the principle of forward presence to protect the archipelago in the maritime sector.
Governor of the National Defense Institute (Lemhannas) Andi Widjajanto stated that the relocation of the capital city from Jakarta to the National Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago in East Kalimantan needed to be accompanied by a change in the defense paradigm.
"Indonesia's defense has tended to focus on land-based defense by relying on in-depth defense strategies," said Andi Widjajanto when presenting a Scientific Oration in the series of the 57th Anniversary of Lemhannas, at the Lemhannas Building, Jakarta, Thursday (19/5).
Andi assessed that the paradigm was no longer optimal because it was not in line with the geographical position and topography of IKN Nusantara. Geographically, the archipelago has a high vulnerability to external threats, especially those from the air.
"Therefore, the anti-access/area-denial (A2/AD) capacity around IKN needs to be strengthened," he said.
The former Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) added that Indonesia must prioritize the principle of forward presence to protect the archipelago in the maritime sector.
"Then the topographical structure of the archipelago requires the land defense system to be more directed at strategic mobility," he said.
The development of IKN itself will be carried out in several stages, starting with the completeness of the regulatory dimensions in 2020 until the realization of IKN as a world city with a green city character and also a digital city. One of the strategic studies on IKN resilience that will be studied more deeply is the IKN defense title. (antara)
