Jokowi invites people who are going home to use a car to leave early to avoid traffic jams.
President Joko Widodo reminded the public about the prediction that around 40 million vehicles would return home by land ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2022.
The President is worried that the land route will come to a complete standstill if there is no anticipation of traffic breakdown and the community's homecoming strategy.
"The hardest thing is those who go home by land. There are 23 million cars that will go home, there will be 17 million motorcycles that will go home. These numbers are not small numbers," said Jokowi when giving a statement at the Bangkal Market, Sumenep, Madura as reported from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube show, Wednesday (20/4/2022).
"So I remind you, we have averaged three times for traffic management, the traffic management is really prepared because what I'm afraid of on 28,29,30 (April) will be a total jam if there is no traffic engineering," he insisted.
Jokowi stated that a number of strategies have been prepared by the government to anticipate traffic congestion during the homecoming flow. Among other things, odd-even arrangements, one-way arrangements and temporarily removing trucks from toll roads and national roads that will be used for the homecoming route.
"But that's not a guarantee. Therefore, I invite people to go home using a car earlier than there will be traffic jams. It's earlier, those who go by land and use a car because really the 23 million (car) number is not a small number," he said firmly. Jokowi. (setpres, kompas)
