Jokowi Rejects Request by Ukrainian President to Send Weapons Aid

The request was rejected by Jokowi because it was not in accordance with constitutional principles.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo or Jokowi revealed the contents of the conversation when communicating with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Wednesday, April 27 yesterday.

In that conversation, according to Jokowi, Zelensky asked for weapons from Indonesia. However, the request was rejected by Jokowi because it was not in accordance with constitutional principles.

"I emphasize that according to the constitutional mandate and the principles of Indonesia's foreign policy, it is forbidden to provide weapons assistance to other countries," said Jokowi in a press statement shared on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, Friday, April 29, 2022.

Jokowi said he had conveyed Indonesia's readiness to provide humanitarian assistance. As in his tweet on Thursday, April 28, 2022, Jokowi also emphasized Indonesia's support for all efforts to make peace negotiations successful.
