Jokowi Rebukes Local Government for Funds Deposited in Banks Reaches IDR 193.4 Trillion

He ordered local governments to immediately use the funds to stimulate the economy in each region.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) again reprimanded regional heads because the total APBD funds deposited in banks rose 11.3 percent to Rp193.4 trillion as of August 2022.

"I check the APBD, I have to check small things, I have to know that the APBD money in the bank is still Rp. 193.4 trillion. It's very big," said Jokowi at the 2022 National Coordination Meeting for Inflation Control, Thursday (18/8).

He ordered local governments to immediately use the funds to stimulate the economy in each region.

"This must be encouraged to participate in spurring the regional economy," said Jokowi.

In addition, the realization of the new regional budget of Rp472 trillion as of August 2022. This figure is equivalent to 39.3 percent of the total regional expenditure allocation.

"Be careful, this is only IDR 472 trillion, even though this is very important for the circulation of money in the regions," said Jokowi.

Not only that, Jokowi also asked local governments to coordinate with the central government in controlling inflation. Because, there are five provinces that recorded inflation of more than 5 percent in July 2022.

The details are Jambi 8.55 percent, West Sumatra 8.01 percent, Bangka Belitung 7.77 percent, Riau 7.04 percent, and Aceh 6.9 percent.

"Be careful, please see in detail what is causing this (high inflation)," explained Jokowi.

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that Indonesia's inflation reached 4.94 percent as of July 2022. This figure was the highest since last October 2015.
