President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Lt. Gen. Suharyanto to prevent Mouth and Nail Disease (FMD) from spreading in Indonesia.
One of the president's orders is to order a regional lockdown or lockdown for areas with PMK red zone status for provinces whose sub-districts have been infected by more than 50 percent.
"There should be no movement of animals from one point to another. So everything is locked down," said Suharyanto at the online coordination meeting for the handling of the nail and mouth disease outbreak in Jakarta, Friday (24/6/2022).
The target of the policy is to no longer add red areas related to PMK. In addition, public communication ahead of Eid al-Adha is also necessary. Such as animal health education and explanations to the public in as clear a way as possible.
Suharyanto asked the public to remain calm and alert, and to be fully aware of the PMK. So there may be differences, especially regarding the mobilization of livestock or the movement of livestock from one point to another, especially in areas that are red zones for FMD.
The second directive is the formation of a regional task force to collect data. In addition, to ensure the function of veterinarians and veterinary authorities in their respective areas. Both at the district/city level and at the provincial level, especially in the red zone.
The third is to record the need for vaccines and vaccinator personnel, considering that the Ministry of Agriculture at the end of this week will carry out the PMK vaccination. After that, the data is integrated using the Covid-19 data reporting system that has been running so far.
“Furthermore, if there is a need for sacrificial animals cannot be met, there is no need to mobilize livestock between regions. This is not easy to explain to the public. But this is the decision of the country's leaders. So please each region, each region, follow this policy," said Suharyanto.
The next step is to establish a PMK post to monitor livestock traffic. Namely, by activating the Micro PPKM post at the village, sub-district level which has been used to control Covid-19 cases.
