All developments show that there is no commitment by the Myanmar military junta in implementing 5PCs.
Minister of Foreign Affairs (Menlu) Retno Marsudi stated that President Joko Widodo expressed his disappointment because there was no significant progress towards the implementation of the five point consensus or 5PCs on conditions in Myanmar.
President Joko Widodo stated this when he met Japanese Prime Minister (PM) Fumio Kishida in Tokyo, Wednesday (27/7/2022).
"The President expressed his disappointment with the lack of significant progress in the implementation of 5PCs in Myanmar. All developments in Myanmar, including the death penalty for political prisoners, show a setback, not progress from the implementation of 5PCs," said Retno.
"All developments show that there is no commitment by the Myanmar military junta in implementing the 5PCs," he stressed. According to Retno, since the political crisis situation in Myanmar occurred, Indonesia was among the first to encourage the leaders of ASEAN countries to act.
"Indonesia is also actively providing input on the draft chair statement. I myself propose that at the meeting of the ASEAN Ministers Forum in Phnom Penh in early August, Myanmar's latest developments are important to be discussed specifically," added Retno.
Because as of now, it has been more than 1.5 years that 5PCs have been agreed. "It is time for ASEAN to seriously discuss the absence of significant progress in the implementation of 5PCs," added Retno. (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, antara)
