The postponement cannot be done because the G20 Summit will be held at the end of the year so there is no time left for Indonesia.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Teuku Faizasyah, said that his party had discussed various scenarios for holding the G20 Summit in Bali in November 2022 in the midst of the Russia-Ukraine war conflict. As a result of the conflict, the United States and Ukraine are reluctant to attend the conference if Russia is present at the event.
One of the issues that has surfaced is the proposed postponement of the G20 summit, if the Russia-Ukraine conflict continues. However, Faizasyah hinted that the postponement could not be done, considering that the G20 Summit would be held at the end of the year so there was no time left for Indonesia.
"Because in 2023 the G20 Presidency will be led by India," said Faizasyah when contacted by Tempo, Sunday, April 17, 2022.
Faizasyah explained that the invitation to the G20 summit had been distributed to members since February 2022 or before the Russia-Ukraine war occurred.
In addition, as this year's G20 Presidency, Indonesia has the obligation to invite all its members, regardless of the ongoing conflict.
This is the reason Indonesia continues to invite Russia, despite various criticisms from other members.
"Indonesia continues to prepare for the holding of the G20 Summit and various meetings within the G20 framework, primarily ensuring the continuation of the discussion of the 3 main G20 agendas under the Indonesian Presidency. Follow-up issues from the Ukraine crisis are still being consulted," said Faizasyah. (kemlu, antara, tempo)
