The use of masks is still enforced for people who do activities in closed rooms and public transportation.
President Joko Widodo or Jokowi decided to relax the policy on the use of masks. Jokowi made this decision after considering a number of aspects.
"The government has decided to relax the policy on wearing masks," Jokowi said at a press conference regarding the easing of the use of masks at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Tuesday (17/5/2022).
Jokowi said the decision was taken in line with the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia which was increasingly under control.
"If people are doing outdoor activities or in open areas that are not crowded with people, then they are allowed not to wear masks," he stressed.
However, according to him, the obligation to use masks is still enforced for people who carry out activities in closed rooms and also public transportation. This means that passengers on public transportation, both Commuter Line (KRL), trains, buses, and airplanes are still required to wear masks.
"For activities in closed rooms and public transportation, you still have to wear a mask," said Jokowi.
Jokowi at the same time emphasized that people who are categorized as vulnerable and elderly and have comorbidities are advised to continue to use masks when doing activities both indoors and outdoors.
"People who experience symptoms of coughs and colds must still wear masks when carrying out activities," said Jokowi. (setpres)
