Indonesia Officially Bans Exports of All Cooking Oil Raw Materials, Including CPO

The President emphasized that Indonesia, as the largest palm oil producer in the world, is ironically having difficulty getting cooking oil.

Indonesia has officially banned the export of all cooking oil raw materials, including CPO. This prohibition comes into effect on Thursday, April 28, 2022. This step is taken as a response to the scarcity of cooking oil in the country.

This decision was confirmed by Jokowi through a press statement broadcast on the Presidential Secretary's YouTube account on Wednesday (27/4/2022).

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked for awareness of the domestic palm oil industry to meet the needs of cooking oil in the country.

The President emphasized that Indonesia, as the largest palm oil producer in the world, is ironically having difficulty getting cooking oil.

Jokowi asked palm oil business actors to see the current problems better and more clearly.

“I ask for awareness of the palm oil industry to meet domestic needs. Prioritize domestic first, fulfill the people's needs first," said Jokowi.

According to the President, if viewed from the production capacity, domestic needs can be easily met. This is because the volume of raw material for cooking oil produced and exported is much larger than domestic demand.

Jokowi added that for the government, meeting the basic needs of the community is a top priority.

Various policies have been taken by the government, but so far have not been effective in overcoming the problem of scarcity and high cooking oil prices.

The government decided to ban the export of raw materials for cooking oil and cooking oil to foreign countries. This prohibition applies to exports from all regions of Indonesia, including from bonded areas. (setpres, between)
