Indonesia Integrates NIK Implementation Data into NPWP

DGT and the Directorate General of Dukcapil will integrate population data with taxation databases in order to increase convenience for taxpayers.

The Director General of Taxes (DGT) of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) Suryo Utomo and the Director General of Population and Civil Registry of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Zudan Arif Fakrulloh, signed a cooperation agreement on the Utilization of Population Identification Numbers, Population Data, and Electronic Identity Cards in DGT Services.

Director of Counseling, Services and Public Relations of DGT Neilmaldrin Noor said this cooperation agreement is a continuation of the cooperation agreement between DGT and the Directorate General of Civil Registration since 2013 which was renewed in 2018.

"This agreement is an addendum to the previous cooperation agreement that was signed on November 2, 2018, which aims to strengthen data integration between DGT and the Directorate General of Civil Registration, especially regarding NIK and NPWP," he said in an official statement, in Jakarta, Friday (20/5).

This addendum is a form of fulfillment of the mandate of Law Number 7 of 2021 concerning Harmonization of Tax Regulations, namely the use of a Population Identification Number (NIK) as a Taxpayer Identification Number (NPWP) for individual taxpayers who are residents of Indonesia.

This addendum is also mandated by Presidential Regulation Number 83 of 2021 concerning the Inclusion and Utilization of Population Identification Numbers and/or Taxpayer Identification Numbers in Public Services, namely the obligation to include NIK and/or NPWP in public services and activities for matching and updating Population Data and taxation databases.

Through this addendum, the DGT and the Ditjen Dukcapil will integrate population data with the taxation database in order to increase the convenience for taxpayers in accessing and receiving tax services while at the same time supporting the one data Indonesia policy.

The integration of population and taxation data will also strengthen efforts to enforce tax compliance because population data is the source data used by many government and non-government agencies and institutions so as to increase the effectiveness of tax compliance supervision.

DGT appreciates the support and cooperation of the Directorate General of Civil and Civil Registration which has been going very well so far.

“We express our highest appreciation for the support and cooperation from the Directorate General of Civil Registration, which has been going very well so far. We also hope that the synergy between the two agencies in the future will be even stronger in order to build a better, just and prosperous Indonesia through tax revenue," concluded Neilmaldrin.
