The Covid-19 Task Force noted that the number of new Covid-19 cases was below 1,000 for the last 25 days.
Epidemiologist from Australia's Griffith University, Dicky Budiman, predicts that Indonesia will enter a Covid-19 endemic period at the end of 2022. This prediction is based on the current state of handling and controlling the Covid-19 pandemic.
"My prediction is that this pandemic health crisis situation can be lifted at the end of 2022 or early 2023 with the assumption that only a third of the countries in the world are in the controlled or endemic category," said Dicky, Wednesday, May 18, 2022.
In addition, Dicky said that the condition for Covid-19 to change status from pandemic to endemic is to achieve 70 percent global coverage of the second dose of vaccination by October 2022. Meanwhile, for Indonesia, the coverage of the second dose of vaccination has reached 79.86 percent and the third dose of 20. .54 percent.
"The last condition is the absence of new Covid-19 variants or subvariants that are lethal or worsening, lowering the effectiveness of vaccination," said Dicky.
For now, Dicky said Indonesia has not been able to enter the endemic stage. According to him, the status can only be determined per region.
"The endemic status can be achieved by the region, but not yet nationally, which still takes time. If the region can do it with a production rate, for example, the highest positivity rate is below 5 percent, for example. But this is a national talk, so it's not done yet," said Dicky.
Previously, the Covid-19 Task Force stated that Indonesia had begun to make a transition from a pandemic to an endemic phase. The government claims that the transmission of Covid-19 in Indonesia has decreased significantly.
Data from the Covid-19 Task Force noted that the number of cases had been below 1,000 for the last 25 days. In addition, the hospital bed occupancy rate is at 2 percent. Likewise, the death rate has decreased. (tempo)
