The current pandemic does not cause disruption to social activities in Indonesia, cases continue to decline consistently.
Deputy Minister of Health (Wamenkes) Dante Saksono Harbuwono stated that Indonesia's status regarding the Covid-19 outbreak for now was a controlled pandemic phase.
This is in accordance with the confirmation of the Covid-19 Handling Task Force, which also stated that the pandemic phase was under control, not yet endemic.
"There are several stages that must be passed before Indonesia can enter the endemic phase. To enter the endemic transition, actually there are several stages that we pass from the pandemic to deceleration, control, elimination, and eradication," said Dante in a working meeting with the Commission. IX DPR, Monday (23/5/2022).
Currently, Indonesia has entered a controlled period of the Covid-19 pandemic. The reason is that the current pandemic does not cause disruption to people's social activities, cases continue to decline consistently and the number of confirmed cases per day is predictable.
"Currently, we cannot say that we have entered an endemic phase, but the pandemic is under control," he said.
Why is it called a controlled pandemic? According to Dante, this is because there is no disruption to social activities in the community. Then the Covid-19 cases continued to decline.
"This controlled pandemic is still in its next phase and hopefully it will get better up to the elimination phase and finally to eradication," said Dante.
He revealed that the development of Covid-19 cases in several countries was dominated by the Omicron variant. There are new variants of BA.4 and BA.5 and they are not too dominant and have not been found in Indonesia. The Ministry of Health is still monitoring Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) if there is a new variant. (antara)
