BNPT and ASEAN Discuss National Counter-Terrorism Strategy

Meeting to facilitate discussion of ASEAN Senior Officials regarding the development of terrorism issues.

The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) together with the ASEAN Senior Officials Working Group discussed the development of national strategies for countering terrorism in ASEAN countries.

The event was titled Meeting of the Working Group of ASEAN Senior Officials on the issue of Combating Terrorism. The 18th Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) Working Group on Counter-Terrorism. The event took place in a hybrid (online and offline) in Bogor, Thursday (7/7).

"The meeting is a forum for ASEAN partner countries and international organizations to explore opportunities for cooperation on the issue of countering terrorism and violent extremism with ASEAN countries," said Deputy for International Cooperation of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) in a statement in Jakarta, Friday (8/7).

Andhika said the activity was aimed at strengthening cooperation in efforts to tackle violent extremism and terrorism.

This annual meeting aims to facilitate the discussion of ASEAN Senior Officials regarding the development of the issue of terrorism and violent extremism.

In addition, this agenda is also a platform for exchanging views, experiences, and good practices in enhancing joint efforts to face these challenges in the region.

"With this meeting, I believe I can discuss the resources and actions that need to be taken to deal with the issues that arise," said Andhika.

These issues include, among others, the impact of the pandemic on efforts to tackle violent extremism and terrorism, misuse of the internet and online transactions for the benefit of terrorism, and national and international strategies to deal with them. (bnpt, antara)
